Today, you deserve to know what you’re voting for. It’s not care, it’s not compassion; neither is it health or choice. It’s about introducing abortion without restriction into Ireland.
The Government's proposal, called the Heads of Bill, is what they plan to introduce unless you vote No today. You can read it here for yourself.
Under Section 7 of the proposal, abortion would be available up to 12 weeks for any reason. At 12 weeks, the baby is fully formed, it just needs time to grow and mature.
Under Section 4 of the proposal, abortion would be available up to viability, 6 months of pregnancy, on unspecified mental health grounds, like they have in England.
This referendum isn't about abortion for certain difficult cases; it's about abortion for healthy mothers with healthy babies.
Many people voting No today would welcome abortion for some difficult cases, but they are still voting No because the reality of repeal is the introduction of an abortion regime that goes too far. It's too extreme.
Today has never been more important. So please, vote no.
